The Romance of the Quiet Lakes includes it’s colorful history:
Lost Land Lake was missing from early logger maps. As headwaters of the Chippewa Flowage, prime pine logs were floated from the lake to Teal Lake (Tea Lake) with its six wilderness islands and down the Teal River. Ghost Lake’s name derived from an over-served logger who thought the wild wandering flowage disappeared in a ghostly fog. Ghost Lake CCC Camp received the important commission by Roosevelt to replant the ravaged forest he then designated as the Chequamegon National Forest. The seclusion of the lakes made a perfect hideout for Chicago gangsters who built a club house on Green Point, the only green left after the logging.
