Good morning from the Quiet Lakes, we got some much needed rain Thursday night although not enough to really make a difference. Easter Sunday looks fantastic with temps topping out in the mid 50s and mostly sunny. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are showing high chances of rain. Temps look to stay mostly in the 50s and 60s and the 15 day forecast shows promise of good weather for fishing opener. That is still a ways out so I won’t hold my breath.
I know a few anglers who have gotten their boats wet already, but have not heard anything of a bite to report on. Most of the lakes are ice free, although a couple of the bigger lakes still had some sheets left. Water temps surely are still only in the upper 30s and crappie may have not pushed up too shallow yet. Longer days of sunlight should start warming water and weed beds should emerge soon. Anglers should start in the basins for crappie and perch and work shallow water for bluegill.
There is still plenty of time to keep getting the boats and fishing set ups ready before the opener. Be sure to check rods/reels and put new line on old spools. Make sure everything is in order on the marine side as well. Make sure batteries charged, motors are running smooth, BOAT PLUGS are present and in good condition! Other than that, let’s hope we get more rain before the opener as all of the water levels are way down.
That is all I have for this week’s report. Happy Easter, have a great weekend and we will talk soon!
